Missionaries. Why don't they do charitable work without pushing their religion?

I always thought missionaries did good acts for three reasons: 1) it gives them a reason to be in a certain area of the world; 2) the people might be more willing to listen to your religious ideas if you are doing something nice for them; and 3) they are leading by example, as in this is what Christians do - they help less fortunate people.
