What is that thing where you get coordinates and leave messages at certain landmarks?

I heard someone talking about it. You look up some coordinates or another, and when you go there there is supposed to be some capsule or tube that you leave a message or find a message, sort of like a scavenger hunt but they are all over the world. I heard someone talking about one downtown in our city, but didn't overhear what the activity was called....
