L.A. Noire. HOW DO YOU SAVE!!!?

I know there is an Auto-save, but in the free roam it saves before it adds on your gained experience. So if you find a new landmark it will save that you found the landmark, and then add your experience, so if you turn off the game you lose the experience. Is there any way to save besides finding new stuff or completing street crimes in free roam?
