Edinburgh - Visiting Historical Locations - best to do on foot or with organised group?

if you are going to somewhere like Edinburgh Castle I would just go myself and discover it all for myself. There is a lot of guide books for sale in the gift shop and there are lots of signposts inside the castle. The Great Hall is my favourite place . The stained glass windows feature some clan crests
